Upgrade to Wordpress 2.8.{1,3}

Saturday, July 18th, 2009

Today I upgraded wordpress again,

All I did was upgrade wordpress via emerge (this happens automaticly when running emerge -uND world ;) ), run webapp-config -U -h blog.leipie.com -u apache -g apache -s apache wordpress 2.8.1, run CONFIG_PROTECT="/var/www/blog.leipie.com/htdocs//" etc-update and execute http://blog.leipie.com/wp-admin/upgrade.php in my browser. Et voila, it was done.
I first made a backup off my mysql data just to be sure. using tar to backup my wordpress db in /var/lib/mysql ;)

Edit: Did the same for 2.8.3 today, but this has overwritten wp-config.php :o Luckily I keep a backup…

svn over ssh

Saturday, November 15th, 2008

Hey,

I fixed my svn so that it works over ssh. What idiot decided that svn works in such a retarded way over ssh!

I made a special script, to fix each respository you want to make available for ssh usage: fixSVNReposForSSH.

Replacing my Xbox

Saturday, November 15th, 2008

Hey,

My old server was an old Xbox, with Gentoo on it. They sort of stopped supporting it. This resulted in me completely breaking the install when I tried updating it a couple of weeks ago. So I left it for a while like that…

When I was searching ebay 2 weeks ago for a new case for my laptop, because there was a crack in it! I spotted the complete under half of my laptop for 20 pounds. So I thought why not use that as a server? I ordered it received it in 4 days. The part I received was casing plus workin mainboard, keayboard and touchpad. The only thing missing to make it a complete was a screen, ram and a hard drive. But because it’s a laptop the mainboard has everything else you need on it: usb, ethernet, vga port. You just need to install linux on it and manage from any ssh client.

I decide to install Gentoo again, because I like it and I am used to managing it. I bought some 1GB ram for 32 euro’s and a 320GB My Passport usb hard drive from Western Digital for 95 euro. This is quite a bit cheaper then an ATA disk + the special Dell caddy. This resulted in a nice VERY quiet set up with Pentium Centrino 1.4 GHz, 1GB DDR ram and 320 GB sata hard drive. All this for someting like 170 euro’s! Did I mention it has a battery? So it has an APC too :P I had a spare one from replacing my own laptops battery. It should be able to survive a 1h30 power outage :D

wh00t, my blog is up

Friday, November 14th, 2008

Hey,

This is my first post, wordpress seems to be running. The guys at Gentoo don’t trust it, they hard masked it due to security issues. But with some perseverance, you can come a long way :P

Hope to fix my domain. Need to find out if my provider assigns me a static address…
